JOS exclusively uses natural fibres that are gentle on the environment. 

With longevity in mind, JOS sources reliable fibres that last the test of time, aging with grace. JOS utilises a luxurious, lightweight blend of silk and cotton. This hybrid fabric incorporates the benefits of both silk and cotton resulting in the perfect blend.

Cotton, a renewable fibre derived from the cotton plant, is known for its strength, durability, breathability and hypoallergenic nature. Silk, a lustrous and luxurious fibre with high tensile strength is a renewable fibre that forms on a cocoon as a natural part of the life cycle of the Bombyx Mori silkworm. Silkworms feed on Mulberry leaves and typically require no chemical pesticide or fertilisers. This resulting cotton/silk fabric is lightweight, breathable, durable and offers a subtle luxurious shine. 

These natural fibres made from the earth can also return to the earth at end of life, breaking down naturally without contributing to landfill. 

JOS fabrics are OKEO-Tex Standard 100 certified. The OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 is a global testing and accreditation program. This certification ensures that every component of the article including the threads, buttons and other accessories are free of any harmful substances including formaldehyde, heavy metals, pesticides, phthalates, chlorinated phenols, colorants, solvents, and other chemicals. 

We know that loved clothes last. 

In order to prolong the life of your JOS pieces we recommend keeping washing to a minimum, in turn reducing water and energy use. Try airing out your JOS garments and give spot cleaning a try to remove any small marks between washings. 

When a good wash is required we recommend a gentle cold hand wash and line dry in the shade. 

We like to think of handwashing as giving your garment a nice bath. Place the garment in a clean plugged sink or bucket with gentle detergent diluted in cool water. 

Once immersed, gently agitate the garment, remove from soapy water and repeat the process without detergent. Once soaked, run cool clean water through your garment to rinse then press between a towel or your hands to remove excess water. Do not wring or twist the garment.  

The final step is to find a nice bit of shade (no direct sunlight) where you can either lay your piece flat on a drying rack or hang to air dry.

When it comes time to wear your JOS garment a smoothing technique isn’t always necessary, as possible creases tend to fall when hung. However you may use a low temperature iron or steaming to keep your pieces wrinkle free.
